Dayna’s Favorite Places to Shop Local in Long Beach
As we get ready for Small Business Saturday, I’m sharing my favorite local places to shop here in Long Beach (besides Prism, of course!). Shopping local isn’t just something to do the day after Black Friday, it’s something to be conscious about doing all year because supporting independent makers and business owners helps our community thrive. Opening a business takes courage, commitment, and a whole lot of heart so please, this holiday season, so get out there and support the dreams of your local business owners.
6th & Detroit carries super unique and highly sought after vintage housewares, from rattan everything to midcentury statement pieces. We love the owner Michelle’s eye for design and how carefully she chooses each item she carries. Warning, they go quick so keep an eye on their on their Instagram stories and nab your favorites before they’re gone.
Wild Child Party is the best place to make your party or holiday look Pinterest-ready, plus they’ve got the best balloons in town (as seen on TV - seriously!). We’re obsessed with Wild Child’s custom balloon installations, which you have probably seen in both of our stores. From kids parties to holiday gatherings, this is a one stop shop for all things celebrations.
BYO Long Beach is on a mission to eliminate single use plastic household items and help locals reduce their trash consumption while focusing on reusable alternatives. I love their lotions and soap refills - they smell so good. Pop in to learn more about how you can take steps towards towards producing less waste, they are such a great resource for our community.
For the cutest kids clothes ever, you’ve got to stop in Sweet Threads. It’s the perfect place to shop for baby showers and birthday gifts for kids. They have really great family-friendly events as well. They even have a second location right next door to us at our Costa Mesa location. So clearly, we love them a lot!
Burke Mercantile carries elevated, hard to find brands with a focus on sustainability. I love how beautifully curated it is to owner Maggie’s vision; it’s so clear how much she cares about every detail. It’s nestled in the arts district of downtown Long Beach, which is a fun place to walk around and explore when you’re done shopping.
The best juice in LB is at Salud Juice, and the 4th street location has a full kitchen making fresh, healthy vegan food our Prism girls can’t get enough of. My favorite juices are Soylent Green and Indian summer. Make sure to try their seasonal specials as well.
Coffee Parlor makes my absolute favorite latte in town. I’m also a big fan of their grain bowls and avocado toast, made on super yummy locally made Gusto Bread. I love that they also use locally roasted coffee beans that have been directly sourced.
For a calming, peaceful experience, visit Go Inward. It’s is a community holistic sanctuary that offers all-natural healing methods, from meditation to reiki. As soon as you step into their dreamy and tranquil upstairs space, you feel so much more relaxed. I love getting acupuncture and cupping with Denise.
Grit Cycle is my latest obsession. It’s truly the best workout in town. The motivational instructors and loud, upbeat music pushes you to get your best workout. Plus, it’s one of the most fun parts of my day. How often can you say that about working out??
The Hangar at the Long Beach Exchange is one of my favorite places to hang out. With an elevated food court carrying a wide variety of delicious food, awesome craft beer, and hard kombucha from Bottlecraft, there’s something for everyone. I especially love the mint matcha from Portola Coffee and Blue Bowl’s acai bowls.
